Coolabah

Coolabah stands next to the snake eggs that during dreamtime the snake came out of the ground and created the stream near his community Yillia in the Kimberley. He added that someone stole one of the snake eggs and was turned into stone and he showed us the bloke's body now a rock.

Coolibah married into a Gooniyandi family, in the Eastern Kimberley. The Gooniyandi language is spoken by fewer than 100 people, and is not being passed down to younger generations.

Yiyili Community was established in 1981 with the purchase of Louisa Downs Station by the Louis Downs Pastoral Aboriginal Corporation. The community was developed on land excised from the station pastoral lease. Louisa Station is still owned and operated by Yiyili community members under the Louisa Downs Pastoral Aboriginal Corporation.
